book review: “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius”

March 6, 2009
Just finished reading “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius” by Dave Eggers. Thinking at age 24; I barely remember. I do remember people (my father and father-in-law) reflected on my thinking as being “of that age” and showed tolerance yet of course I was unaware of it. They might have had a tough time handling this “foolishness” but they usually kept these feelings away from me.
It helped me to better understand the book when I realized that the narrator thinks exactly like J- the only other person in my life of that age group. In fact, the benefits of understanding the thinking of the age group worked both ways.
