developing frienships

May 14, 2009
Men often have trouble developing deep friendships. Dating, spouses and family-raising all present challenges to friendships between men. That was the case with me for many years. I notice that over the past few years I have been blessed with a handful of new friendships. I would drop everything to help if they needed and know I can count on them at any time. We enjoy being with each other and share similar interests. I count Dave, Mark, Ron, and Jeff among this group. All of these relationships have grown over the past year despite my personal challenges. I also see the likelihood of more friendships developing from my casual current relationships in the future. It occurs to me that at this time when I secretly mourn the impact of changing relationship with my children as they become more independent, I would do well to focus on the potential of these new friendships.
